Mrs Ngo Thi Nhung
Submitted by Phuong Mai on Thu, 2006-09-28 12:52. Activities | Mrs Ngo Thi Nhung
Mrs. Ngo Thi Nhung, mother of Mr. Ngo Kim Son, lives in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Mrs. Nhung was diagnosed with liver cancer in Vietnam. When the disease was diagnosed, her health condition was relatively serious; therefore, her family decided to send her to Gleneagles Hospital in Singapore with a hope of having her cured. Her treatment plan comprises four chemotherapy sessions, with each being one month away from the previous. To this point of time, Mrs. Nhung has had two chemotherapy sessions. With great care by the doctors at Gleneagles Hospital, after eight days following the first session, Mrs. Nhung was allowed to rest in Vietnam for 20 days so as she could gain back her strength. Because of the chemotherapy and her weakness, within the first 10 days in Vietnam Mrs. Nhung had mouth fungul infection which caused pain and made it difficult for her to eat and drink. However, after taking supplementary medicine and antibiotics, her health became much better. In mid-September 2006, Mrs. Nhung returned to the hospital and stayed there 10 days more to have the second chemotherapy session. This session went smoothly, except for a stomach ache she had the night before her flight back to Vietnam. Although she did not have any problem the next morning, the doctors still checked her up carefully before allowing her to go back to Vietnam. Also, the doctors gave a lot of advice about ways to protect her health, including food safety issues, while she was in Vietnam so that her health would be in the best condition. In the early time when Mrs. Nhung was in Singapore, because of the language barrier, Mr. Son (her son) had to hire an acquaintance to be their interpreter. After their meeting up with GFO, GFO members have been assisting Mrs. Nhung and her family whole-heartedly in communication with the doctors. Also, in the afternoon of 18 September 2006, GFO assigned some members to see Mrs. Nhung and her family off at the airport and help them check in before the flight. Now Mrs. Nhung is resting at home with her family, and she plans to return to Singapore on 10 October 2006 to start the third chemotherapy session. Thuy Duong, a very active member of GFO, is the one who is mainly in charge of Mrs. Nhung |
